Door Open Barrie kicks off Sept 19th – 2010. One of the highlights of this event are the walking tours led by Steve Travers – the Barrie Town Crier. Travers is a serious history buff and brings the past to life. His walking-talks about places and characters from Barrie’s past are a sure fire hit with the public. The union cemetery tour will also be hosted by Larry Cotton, author of “Whiskey and Wickedness”.

The Simpsons, Gowans, Ardaghs, Grants, MacLarens and Lounts are all stops on an historic tour through Barrie’s Union Cemetery on Sunday.Navigated by Town Crier Steve Travers, the tour makes stops at the graves of some of the city’s most famous residents and is part of the Doors Open Barrie festival, taking place at a number of locations throughout the city on Sunday.
“This is an historic tour, not a ghost tour,” Travers said. “We will take a walk around and learn about the history of these famous resident who helped make Barrie what it is today.”
