Fort Willow – 1814 “The fear was that the Americans would then swoop down from the North to York ( Toronto) and simultaneously attack from the south.”

Dateline 1812 : Britain is at war with Napoleon in Europe. The newly founded USA ( 1776) looks north and congress notes the colonies of Upper and Lower Canada (The Canadas), are looking lightly defended. A goal of conquest is stated and the US declares war on Great Britain on June 12, 1812.

McGill University County Atlas Project 2001 contains a treasure trove of maps of all Ontario county maps circa 1880.

New photos have been added to the Barrie Union Cemetery picture carousel. Of particular interest are the distinguished vaults of the Ardagh, Gowan and Bird families. some of Barrie’s first families of the mid-19th century.
