Gravenhurst Approves Demolition of Log Church

71 year old Southwood Church in Gravenhurst is slated for demolition.  Gravenhurst town council decided to allow demolition of the log church, despite concerns voiced by the local heritage committee. The building is described by councillors as rotting and without water or hydro.
The Southwood Anglican Church is on Southwood road.  It was built in the 1930′s and was in use as a church until 1997.
Hank Smith Gravenhurst Heritage Committe states in a Simcoe.com article, that the heritage committee wasn’t given enough time to react to the demoltion request. “So, we really didn’t have any time,” Smith explained. “This thing arrived on Sept. 8 with apparently the motion already passed to demolish and suggesting we should get out and quickly remove a couple things, and then (say) goodbye.”
