The Toronto Public library has a new innovative site called The Time Machine. Enjoy going back in time and reading a wide variety of archival materials described by the libaray as well simply”Really Old Books”.

Egerton Ryerson (1803-1882) was appointed to the position of Chief Superintendent of Education for Upper Canada, the highest position in the Department of Public Instruction for Upper Canada in 1844 and was to hold that position for thirty years.
He is noted for bringing universal elementary education for all children. Created canada west school board board of all of Ontario which evolved in the Dept of Public Insturction in 1850, then the Dept. of Education by 1876 and in 1972 the current Ministry of Education.
